Brass: Birmingham

Welcome to the bustling world of Brass: Birmingham, where the clanking of machinery and the whistles of locomotives echo through the streets of the industrial revolution. Step into the shoes of ambitious entrepreneurs vying for dominance in this dynamic economic landscape, spanning a century from 1770 to 1870.

Every game of Brass: Birmingham offers a gripping saga of competition and strategy. Though you may know its predecessor Brass: Lancashire, Birmingham offers a fresh new narrative that has steadily held it’s place on the top board game lists since its release.

In Brass Birmingham your goal is to develop, build, and establish industries and networks, seizing opportunities amidst fluctuating market demands. The game unfolds over two distinct eras: the canal era (1770-1830) and the rail era (1830-1870), each is fraught with its own challenges and opportunities.

To emerge victorious, you must amass the most Victory Points, calculated at the end of each era based on your contributions to canals, rails, and established industries.

Throughout the game players will use 2 actions per round to shape their goals. Will you Build in order to invest in laying the groundwork for new and emerging industries, Network to increase your reach, or maybe sell, to capitalize on your existing productions? Don’t forget to us the Develop action to improve your current investments and if you get in a tight spot taking out a loan could actually be the smart move.

Not sure if Brass Birmingham is the game for you? Let’s look at three similar games to find out!

  1. Gaia project - In both of these games your positioning matters and you play heavily off of the actions of others. Both are a complex and engaging experience.
  2. Ticket to Ride - While Brass is far more complex, the network and route building aspect is a notable similarity.
  3. Power Grid - Both games require planning your limited resources to ensure you can carry out your desired actions. (Note here about playing off other players decisions and tactically thinking about what resources are available)

Brass: Birmingham is a struggle through industrial progress, where strategic prowess and entrepreneurial grit shine. It’s no telling who will come out on top in this critically acclaimed game of industry and advancement.
